Another important feast that used to be a tradition was serrà a
vècchie (segavecchia, or old saw). It was another
puppet of human dimension. The old woman was made and dressed up
by the owner of the house, who organized the party.He filled it
with sweets and other good things, and a very long thread to
which he fastened some objects that symbolized bowels. While
people danced, the owner of the house appeared and he started
dancing with the puppet, like if it was a real person. The old
woman, so, danced with all the young people in the party. Then
they cut it and the guests could eat : dried figs, meat balls,
sausages, confetti, and so on. In the belly there also was a
little doll that represented a wedding wish for the person who
found it.
